First, purchase one or more blue, hand-blown, Margarita glasses on Isla (there's a large shop on the corner of Hidalgo and Madero Streets that carries them). You can use any kind of container but the recipe fits, looks and, I think, tastes best in this glass. Plus you get to take it home with you as a reminder of paradise.
Fill to the brim with clean, fresh ice cubes. Over that squeeze one fresh lime--not prepared lime juice. Pour in 1 and 1/2 oz. of aged, 100% agave tequila. Add 1 oz. of Controy (pronounced con-tro). Top off with fresh squeezed tangerine juice (if you don't want to squeeze yourself the juice can be had at the farmer's market and elsewhere). Stir. If the tangerine juice isn't sweet enough you may want to add sugar to your drink (I like mine on the sour side).
Sit down. Sip slowly. Look around and remind yourself how incredibly fortunate you are to be in such a beautiful place, and how thankful you are that more harm wasn't done by Wilma. Usually, one such drink is enough for me. |
